How I work

What actually happens after you email me.

Hiring someone early in their career is a risk, and the fair way to reduce it is to be specific about the mechanics. So here is each service as a sequence: what I need from you, what I do, and what lands in your inbox at the end.

A note on what's confirmed. Items marked Extrapolated are how a job of this kind normally runs and how I'd propose running yours — they are not published terms, and everything in a real quote is agreed in writing before we start. Everything unmarked is drawn from my published service descriptions.

Common to every job

The first two steps are always the same.

  1. You email me

Send what you're making, the dates, the location, and roughly what the budget looks like. Even "I don't know yet, here's the idea" is a workable starting point. The contact page has a short list of what's most useful to include.

  2. I come back with a quote and a plan Extrapolated

Not just a number — a short written scope: what I'm shooting or writing, how many deliverables, when they land, and what would change the price. If I'm the wrong person for it, I'll say that instead and try to point you somewhere better.

Service 01

Editorial photography

From $1,500 per shooting day. Priced per project.

Editorial is the service where I do the most upstream. My published scope covers concept, atmosphere, styling and narrative cohesion, and runs from pre-production and creative direction through to final delivery. In practice that means I'd rather start a fortnight before the camera comes out than turn up on the day and take pretty pictures of whatever's there.

  1. Concept

We agree what the series is about, not just what's in it. For The Getaway that meant a three-act structure before a single frame existed.

  2. Pre-production and creative direction

References, locations, styling, casting and schedule. This is explicitly part of the service, not an upsell.

  3. The shoot

Day rate from $1,500. Multi-day and multi-look projects are priced as a project rather than as a stack of days.

  4. Final delivery

Processed, edited images delivered as the finished thing. Extrapolated — selection count, file formats and delivery date are fixed in the quote.

Service 02

Unit stills, BTS and poster imaging

IATSE rates for union productions based in Los Angeles. Non-union determined on consultation.

The published scope is BTS, key promotional imagery and poster campaigns, delivered processed for press, marketing and awards consideration. That last clause is the part producers should care about: what you get back is ready to submit, not a folder of raws with a note saying "pick some".

  1. Consultation

Union production based in LA? IATSE rates, straightforwardly. Non-union, student or vertical series? We work out the rate on a call — that is the published position, and I'd rather have the conversation than post a number that suits nobody.

  2. Prep with the department heads Extrapolated

I read the script, mark the days worth covering, and agree with the director and DP where I can be and where I can't. Poster and key art needs get flagged early because they usually need setups the schedule doesn't naturally give you.

  3. On the day

Stills alongside the unit, plus BTS. I've done twelve short films and six vertical series this way, so I know how to stay out of the way of a rolling camera.

  4. Processed delivery

Images come back processed for press, marketing and awards consideration — separated by use, not dumped in one folder. Extrapolated — turnaround is agreed per production.

Service 03

Headshots

$350

One outfit. High-end retouching on up to three selects. Additional retouching is $100 per image. I can shoot in-studio or bring a mobile setup to your location, so if it's easier to do it at your office or on a stage, we do it there.

  1. Book a slot and pick the outfit

One outfit is what the rate covers. Extrapolated — I'll send a short note on what reads well on camera.

  2. Studio or your location

Mobile setup brought to you is included in the service as published.

  3. You choose up to three selects

Those three get high-end retouching. More than three is $100 each, decided after you've seen the take.

Service 04

Portrait sessions

From $550

A personalised shoot plus a curated selection of edited images. Extended time, creative direction and location styling are available on request — those are the levers that move it above the base rate.

  1. We plan the session around you

"Personalised" is the published word and it's meant literally: the plan is built for the person, not run off a template.

  2. Shoot

Add extended time, creative direction or location styling if the idea needs it.

  3. Curated, edited selection

I choose and edit a set rather than handing over everything. Extrapolated — the exact count is set in your quote.

Service 05

Script services

My screenplays page says it plainly: for all script services, please use my contact form or email me. There is no published rate card for writing, so rather than invent one, here's the shape of the conversation.

  1. Tell me the material and the problem Extrapolated

Format, page count, what stage it's at, and what you actually want — notes, a rewrite, a polish, coverage, a co-writer.

  2. I read it before I quote Extrapolated

I'm not pricing a page count I haven't seen. After the read I'll tell you whether I think I can help, and what I'd do.

  3. Scope, fee and dates in writing Extrapolated

Placeholder — no published script rates. Writing fees are agreed case by case.

  4. Draft, notes, next draft Extrapolated

However many passes we agreed, on the dates we agreed. I spent four quarters teaching Introductory Screenwriting at UCLA; giving structural notes that a writer can actually act on is the thing I've done most often.

Still not sure which one you need?

Describe the project in a paragraph and I'll work it out with you. That's free and it takes me ten minutes.
