What to put in the brief.
For a photography commission
- What it is — editorial, portrait, headshot, event
- Dates, or the window you are working in
- Location, and whether a studio is needed
- Who or what is in front of the camera
- What the images are used for, and where they run
- How many finished images you need
- Budget, even approximately
For unit stills
- Production title, format and runtime
- Shoot dates and shooting location
- Union or non-union
- Whether you need BTS, key art, poster imaging, or all three
- Delivery deadline and what it feeds — press, marketing, awards
- Who to coordinate with on the day
For script work
- Which script you want to read, if it is a sample request
- Who is reading it and why
- For an assignment: format, length and the deadline
- For notes: page count and turnaround
Writing excerpts are on the writing page. Full drafts on request.
For anything else
- Teaching, workshops and talks — get in touch
- Press and interview requests
- Print enquiries and exhibition invitations
If you are not sure which of these you need, say what the problem is and he will tell you.
