Ashwin Mitchell · b. 2001, Dallas, Texas

Twenty-five, two crafts, and no interest in waiting his turn.

Ashwin Mitchell grew up in Dallas and lives in Los Angeles. He finished a BA in Media Arts at the University of North Texas in 2022 and an MFA in Film, Television and Digital Media at UCLA in 2024. That is three years out of undergrad and two out of graduate school — which is to say he is early, and says so.

What he is not is untested. He has written and produced a 25-minute narrative short, co-written an award-winning episode, executive-produced four episodes of a talk series, shot unit stills on twelve films and six vertical series, run photography for three volumes of a magazine, and taught screenwriting at UCLA across four quarters. His CV gives his title as Editorial Photographer; he leads with screenwriting because that is the direction he is pushing. Both are true, and neither is a hobby.

The thing that makes him unusual is the overlap. He builds a photo series the way he builds a script — premise, structure, turn — and he reads a script the way a photographer reads a frame, for what is in it and what is deliberately left out.
